Michael Yam MCIOB

Michael Yam is the founder and Managing Director of a strategic, technical and project management consultancy firm known as Impetus Partnership. Prior to his current position in May 2008, Michael had an illustrious career spanning more than 25 years in the construction, real estate and corporate sectors, the last 12 years successfully managing two public listed companies as their CEO and Managing Director.

In 2002, Michael was voted the “CEO of the year 2002” for Malaysia by American Express Corporate Services and Business Times. In the same year he was bestowed by the King of Malaysia a “Datoship” in recognition of his services and contribution to nation building.

Trained as a building engineer in the UK with various companies and the British Civil Service, Michael is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Surveyors and also qualified as a Member of the CIOB after his graduation from the University of Westminster.

Upon his return to Malaysia, he has served various large companies in top management positions actively involved in the development of hotels, resorts, shopping malls, golf courses, international schools, residential and mixed developments not only in Malaysia but also in Australia, UK and South Africa.

He is currently the Immediate Past President of the CIOB Malaysia and an examiner and accreditor for the Institute. Recently he was elected as the Chairman of the Real Estate and Housing Developers Association for the Kuala Lumpur Branch, whilst at the same time serving as the incumbent Deputy President of the influential National Association.

In the corporate arena, he is an independent non executive director of public listed PECD Berhad and statutory board CLAB Berhad while serving as a director and trustee of the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Standard Chartered Charity Trust respectively.
