David Philp

David Philp

David’s career spans over some 25 years where he has worked for some of the construction industry’s leading contractors and consultants. After graduating with a degree in Building Engineering and Management he joined Balfour Beatty as an Engineer spending much of his early years setting-out, planning and manging specialist sub-contractors before progressing to Director of Technical Services and subsequently BIM Programme Director.

During this same time David gained an MSc in Property & Construction Management (Distinction) and University Medal winner as well as Virtual Design and Construction certification from Stanford University, California. 

He was seconded into the Cabinet Office as Head of BIM Implementation and has been part of the UK BIM Task Group helping UK Government realise their Building Information Modelling (BIM) strategy.  He is currently part of the Digital Built Britain (DBB) team and also Chair of the Scottish BIM Delivery Group through the Scottish Futures Trust. 

David is employed by AECOM the multinational engineering firm as Global BIM/IM Consultancy Director helping clients around the globe achieve better outcomes through digitised and innovative approaches to the asset life-cycle.

In addition to being a Fellow and Ambassador of the CIOB he is also a Fellow of the Institute of Civil Engineering, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and the Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors.

He is a Professor at Glasgow Caledonian University and visiting Professor at Middlesex University.

David is chair of the CIOB Digital Technologies in Construction Specialist Interest Group and a member of the CIOB Policy Board.
