Preparation for a Board Appointment

Are you an aspiring Director? Do you feel that you have sufficient senior experience working in the Construction and Built Environment industry to enable you to make a difference on a Board as a Director or Non-Executive Director?

If the answer to both these questions is yes, what is holding you back from realising your ambition?

For many potential directors the answer includes, lack of confidence, lack of certainty about competence at Strategy, Communication, Finance and lack of detailed knowledge about how a Board operates. This is particularly true for women who are traditionally under represented on Boards in the industry.

Coming soon, the CIOB Academy will provide a unique opportunity for aspiring leaders to equip themselves with the confidence and competence needed to achieve a Board appointment.  Learning in a supportive environment using real life scenarios, you will become familiar with all aspects of how a Board works whilst perfecting skills of high level communication, negotiation and conflict management and inter personal skills of diplomacy, integrity, ethics and objectivity.

The course will be delivered over 3 short residential sessions at a central London location and include access to on- line learning resources between sessions. Assessment will be practical and related to your learning from shadowing a Board over a period of 6 months.

This course has the support of leading Industry organisations and is delivered by senior professionals. Entry to the course requires the approval of your direct line manager, preferably a senior Director confirming that you have a realistic expectation of achieving your goal within 12 months of completing this course.
