Why should I attend?
The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) seminars aim to bring delegates up-to-date with the latest developments, challenges and solutions in a specific subject relevant to the construction industry. They are designed to inform attendees about the latest thinking, tools and best practice techniques.
What will I achieve?
The seminars enable participants to build on current knowledge and skills, and learn from key industry figures. The events usually address a number of topics or issues within a given area.
They are also an excellent professional development opportunity. Previous subjects include building regulations, high profile construction projects, preparing for redundancy, health and safety, the skills shortage and corporate manslaughter.
What can I expect?
The seminars usually follow a programme of presentations, followed by a question and answer session to the speaker or panel. Some events include case studies or a workshop element. They may be supported with notes or handouts to aid dissemination.
CIOB seminars take a more formal approach and delegate numbers tend to be higher than, for example, workshops. They are also an opportunity for participants to build on their network of contacts.
The events are led by CIOB representatives or external professionals and industry leaders. They can run for up to one day and a number of breakfast seminars are also offered throughout the year.
The seminars are often joint events, run in partnership with, for example, other professional membership organisations or specialist companies.
Who should attend?
Individuals who want to update and further their knowledge in a specific subject should attend these events. CIOB seminars are generally open to members only. However, non-members are welcome to attend some events. Previous delegates have ranged from senior management to graduate trainees.
Other information
This presentation deals with the use of Gas Membranes and Venting Solutions to prevent harmful ground gases from entering buildings. It looks at the types of gases and their production, the sources of these gases, migration mechanisms and potential solutions to protect our structures.
