CIOB Professional Review Evening 09/12/09
Monday, January 04, 2010
On Wednesday 9th December 2009 the West Midlands Branch in conjunction with the University of Wolverhampton held their “Professional Review Evening”. An event which was supported by thirteen candidates who wished to be informed of the Professional Review (PR) procedures and processes to enable them to gain full corporate membership.
The attendees had already made a commitment to achieving professional Membership status were all at various stages of the process including the initial application stage, having already written their report, awaiting confirmation of their PR date and some were there to review the whole process and move forward to the next stage.
A brief introduction encompassed the routes to membership, the professional review application process, time frames, compilation of the application form and the approach to be adopted for the completion of the report along with where and when the PR interview would take place.
The second half of the event was designed to allow participation and viewing of a typical candidate presentation and panel review. This would then enable candidates to be better prepared for writing the report and hopefully achieve a more successful outcome.
The event culminated with a mock interview with a panel comprising of the West Midland Branch Chair; Mr Paul Dockerill (FCIOB), Birmingham Centre Chair; Mr John Reynolds (MCIOB) and Director of Academic Studies; Mr Chris Williams (FCIOB). Two extremely willing candidates offered their services as interviewees, for the benefit of those who were spectators to the whole process and were congratulated on their commitment and performance. The event conclude with a commitment from the Branches to the CIOB’s NOVUS initiative and the attendees were informed of the support for their Professional Review would be offered on a “one to one” mentor basis. This was extended to those who could not attend the event but who wish to progress their membership.
Any member who wishes to proceed with their corporate membership should contact Lorna Gagie on lgagie@ciob.org.uk or 0845 0706135 who will be pleased to advise them on the process through the CIOB NOVUS initiative.
