International Postgraduate Study Scholarship

A great opportunity for CIOB members to pursue postgraduate studies and enhance their career development in any related course in the built environment. 

The scholarship is worth up to the equivalent of £6,000, payable for a one-year or longer programme in the UK or internationally. The scholarship can be used for tuition fees, travel or equipment costs to support appropriate studies or research leading to a postgraduate degree, MSc, MPhil, PhD or MBA.

The award prize is not subject to UK Income Tax, but may be considered taxable income by other countries.

The scholarship has two main objectives:

  • To support individuals who show the potential of becoming leaders in the construction industry with strong motivation, drive and ambition to pursue a postgraduate degree and progress their career development 
  • To provide research at an advanced level to benefit the industry and the CIOB

 

To qualify for the scholarship, the scholar must be:

  • A CIOB member when applying for the scholarship 
  • Have at least two years of work experience in the built environment sector   
  • Enrolled or have a letter of acceptance from the university/education institution where the proposed postgraduate course will be undertaken.

The Application Process

  • The applicant must submit their CV (including CIOB membership number) and a brief report (maximum 500 words) in English to explain, in relation to future career development, why they have applied, and their choice of study or research they plan to undertake. The report should also include a simple financial breakdown of how much they are requesting and on what they would spend it on.
  • The application must be submitted to scholarship@ciob.org.uk before the closing date. 
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview and will give a 10-minute presentation in English to the CIOB Scholarship Committee. For overseas candidates, video conferencing will be considered for the interview and presentation. Candidates failing to give presentations will be disqualified for the scholarship.
  • The Scholarship Committee’s decisions are final and binding and no discussions or correspondence will be entered into relating to any of their decisions. 
  • The scholarship awardee is required to submit a study progress report in English (maximum 300 words) to the CIOB every six months during the course of the studies. 
  • After the completion of the course, the awardee is required to submit a pdf copy of their dissertation to the CIOB. The CIOB reserves the right to publish part, or all, of the dissertation.
