European Development

This group improves the Institute’s recognition in other parts of Europe.

We do this in a number of ways: through our membership of AEEBC (the European Association for Building Surveyors and Construction Experts); through liaison with other professional bodies in Europe; through contributing to consultations on new European legislation and regulations; and through our involvement with pan-European research projects.

Time Management

Back in 2008, the CIOB conducted a survey into how well the industry managed complex building projects. We analysed data from more than two thousand schemes and found that more than two-thirds were not completed in the time allowed. What was more, almost a fifth of these delayed projects were more than three months late.

Today (30 November 2017) the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has announced that the deadline for its call for evidence into construction quality has been extended by two weeks to Friday 15 December 2017. The call for evidence, accessible at www.ciob.org/quality, comes from the CIOB’s Construction Quality Commission, set up earlier this year in response to a number of high-profile failings in construction quality both in the UK and internationally.
