Company Membership

Just as individuals work towards Chartered Membership, entire organisations can also achieve Chartered status with the CIOB’s Chartered Building Company/Consultancy (CBC) Scheme.

The CBC Scheme

The CBC Scheme was initiated by the CIOB back in 1993 as a way to support construction organisations of all sizes. The scheme provides its members with validation that their business is managed professionally and meets ethical codes, allowing them to be recognised as a trusted resource by clients. This raises the company’s profile and improves their reputation, helping them to win new business and strengthen existing client relationships.

CBCs can use the CIOB CBC logo to promote their business and add their details to our online directory which is accessible to anyone anywhere in the world. Over 400 Companies and Consultancies from all over the world are a part of the CBC scheme and numbers are still growing.

Training Partnerships

A Training Partnership is a joint venture between a company and the CIOB with the common aim of having a fully chartered workforce. It provides unique support for an organisation’s long-term learning and development strategies with the aim of helping all relevant employees become Chartered.

Chartered Building Companies and Consultancies are encouraged to enrol onto a Training Partnership scheme as part of their commitment to personal development. However, the scheme is also open to non-chartered organisations.

Search for a CBC

The profiles of our Chartered Building Companies and Consultancies are listed in our online directory. This directory is fully accessible to anyone and contains useful contact details and information about each CBC.

How to apply for company membership

Applying for company membership is a straightforward process. The first step is to complete a short online webform, which will ask you to provide basic information about yourself and your company or consultancy.

To meet eligibility, your organisation must have been trading for two or more years and at least half of the Executive Board must be Chartered, with a minimum of 25% Chartered with the CIOB.

You will then receive an application form as an editable PDF to complete. You will need to provide some policies and statements on certain areas of policy, including Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities, and Environmental Performance. We also ask for references from clients and the supply chain.

The CIOB will review applications and take into account the size of the organisation.
