Digital Technologies in Construction
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is changing the way our industry works.
At a time of economic stringency, the UK BIM initiative has kept this firmly on the agenda towards delivering a BIM Level 2 industry by 2016, resulting in UK PLC being recognised as one of the world leaders in BIM implementation.
Over the last 18 months the CIOB has been working with various industry groups to support and collaborate with several initiatives, including the CIC BIM Forum, BIM4SME and the formation of our own Steering Group composed of industry experts and academics, chaired by David Philp FCIOB, Head of BIM implementation for the UK BIM Task Group.
We have outlined a 3 year vision and strategy for CIOB and are working on some key outputs including a BIM Conference and the development of training and E-learning platforms for BIM CPD. We will be taking the lead in the industry, covering BIM in terms of basic information, through to strategic aims and goals as the industry moves toward BIM Level 3 as envisaged in the Government Industrial Strategy.
The driver for the CIOB strategy is to provide support to members including CBC member businesses, and to play a leading role as the construction industry embraces digital technology.
