Design management is evolving fast with the advent of BIM.
This group, which grew out of Architecture and Surveying, has taken the lead in investigating what this role should entail. The Design Manager’s Handbook, written by John Eynon who heads up the design management group, was published in 2013. The handbook discusses the role, processes, tools and skills that successful design managers need, and proposes a code of practice.
Like our members, design managers come from all sorts of backgrounds: architects, technologists, engineer, surveyors, administrators, construction managers and site managers. The next step for this special interest group will be to create a learning and development framework for would-be design managers.
