Our Membership Grades
Members come from all walks of life. Whether you’re a student, just graduating, building experience, or a leader with over 20 years in the industry, there’s a membership level for you.
Chartered Member (MCIOB)
Chartered Membership demonstrates your commitment to excellence in the built environment. It generally requires 3-5 years’ experience and a degree-level qualification, but we have created alternative pathways to recognise different combinations of educational achievement and industry experience.

Chartered Fellow (FCIOB)
If you work at a strategic level, you could progress higher to Chartered Fellowship. Fellows are among the most experienced and knowledgeable professionals in the construction industry. They are recognised globally for their skills and achievements throughout their career.

Technical Member (TechCIOB)
Our Technical Member grade TechCIOB may be for you if you have a level 4 (for example, NVQ4, BTEC) qualification and 3 years of experience working in a technical role or a level 3 qualification and 5 years of experience working in a technical role. Typical roles that people do are BIM co-ordinator, CAD Designer, Site Supervisor, Retrofit Co-ordinator, Repairs Officer, and Fire risk assessor.
