Beijing Olympic Builders pass the torch to London 2012

Thursday, June 25, 2009

In a unique event organised by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) construction professionals from the Beijing Olympics 2008 meet their counterparts on the London 2012 project.

The workshop brings together CIOB members from China that managed the construction process of the Beijing Olympics with UK members working on the London 2012 games.

This is the first time that construction managers from Olympic projects have come together to share their experiences and knowledge. The meeting which takes place on the London 2012 site on the 25 June will include presentations by both sets of managers, networking and a site tour.

Li Shirong CIOB President said, "The CIOB has many members in China who worked on and managed the construction of the Beijing Olympics, and this is a wonderful opportunity to pass on those experiences to our colleagues working on the exciting London Olympics.

"The idea is to share information and knowledge and to collaboratively learn from each other. Our Chinese members are keen to learn about the green technology and techniques that our UK members are employing. And I am sure our members working on London 2012 will be equally as excited to learn from the success of Beijing 2008. Construction’s Olympic torch is being passed on."

The CIOB plans to hold similar workshops on future Olympic Projects creating a channel for Olympic Construction Managers to share their knowledge.

A webcast of the event will be available at www.ciob.org.uk/about/president
