SummaryBuilding collapses in Nigeria have been on the increase in recent times
There are frequent media reports of collapsed buildings in major Nigerian cities like Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, and many more go unannounced.
Some sources say in Lagos alone- there were 112 cases between December 1978 to April 2008, and between February and May 2019, there were 29 deaths and 76 injuries from 13 building collapse incidents in Lagos alone.
The CIOB invites you to discuss this unfortunate, avoidable, and devastating situation, which has led to loss of lives, displacement of people, and an increased distrust of professionals in the built environment.
Questions to be addressed include:
- What are the causes?
- Can this be prevented?
- Have we seen the end of this?
- What is the solution?
- What role should professionals in the built environment play to alleviate this mishap?
- Do we have robust regulations to prevent this from happening?
- Are we lacking technical know-how, awareness or is it complacency?
The below delegates are part of an expert panel to delve into this topic as we look forward to an interactive session.
