Celebrating Construction Managers with the Construction Manager of the Year Awards

Construction Management can be tough. The suite of skills required for success is vast. It includes Leadership, Technical, Operational, Financial, Communication; to name a few and this is before we consider the need to always be uncompromising in our approach to quality, health and safety. Clients can be demanding; skills shortages are more evident than ever and there is always Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to be undertaken.

I believe that we need to celebrate our wins and that as an industry we don’t do this well enough. For WRW Construction, CMYA is a great platform for celebrating our Construction Managers' efforts in delivering challenging projects.

The application process itself is far from easy; this is not an award that you just turn up for on the night. The process challenges the nominees' full suite of skills and provides CPD in written, presentation and interview skills. Our finalists' feedback has always been positive but they acknowledge that the process is far from easy with some finding the written submission challenging and others finding the thought of the interviews in London daunting, but one thing is obvious; when they arrive at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel they have earned their place at the table. All CYMA finalists are awarded MCIOB status as part of the process and we consider this a great route to membership for our Construction Managers.

Our commitment to CMYA is aligned with our commitment to the professional development of our team. The exposure has helped us market our business to new clients and employees. WRW Construction has had great success in recent years and have had nine finalists. 2020 sees further nominations for two fantastic Construction Managers, both of whom are ready to “Step into the Spotlight”.
