Please note that the ambassador programme is currently undergoing a review and, as a result, we are not accepting or evaluating any applications that we receive. If you have any queries, please let us know on the contact form or number outlined on this page.
This programme is intended for MCIOB or FCIOB members who have reached senior positions in the industry and want to influence the wider world of construction. The idea is that they gain recognition and professional development while we gain another way to use their knowledge to advance the public good.
The programme is split into a UK operation and an international one. Generally, UK-based ambassadors will have the chance to represent the Institute at conferences and other public forums, and will be able to take part in government consultations. They will also have a role in developing the CIOB’s own policies, and its strategies for putting them into practice: for example, finding ways to get smaller companies up to speed on the latest thinking on building information modelling or sustainable construction.
International ambassadors tend to promote CIOB qualifications in countries where we do not have an established membership base, though they can also represent the Institute in a number of the ways outlined above.
Ambassadors have the scope to define their own role. There are those who have a particular interest in showing school children what a career in construction can offer by speaking at schools, those who want to be involved in CIOB governance, as well as ambassadors who wish to contribute to our publications. A typical ambassador appointment lasts for three years.
