There is something powerful about what we can achieve when we come together as a profession. In construction, we are used to building things side by side. But this time, we are coming together for something different. Something that supports not just what we do, but how we feel.

That is why we are launching the CIOB 5K Run and Walk in support of CIOB Assist.

This is not just about covering five kilometres. It is about supporting one another, building healthier habits and raising vital funds for colleagues who may be going through a difficult time.

We all know the pressures that come with working in construction. Long hours, complex projects and demanding environments can take their toll, both physically and mentally. This initiative is a chance to pause, move and reconnect with what matters.

Every step taken will help CIOB Assist continue its work supporting members and their families with financial help, wellbeing support and guidance when it is needed most.

On 3 October 2026, we will be coming together across our regions to take part in our official 5K, using Parkrun events wherever possible. It is a brilliant partnership that reflects the values we care about, community, inclusivity and wellbeing.

But you do not have to wait until then. Whether you are an experienced runner or just starting out, you can begin your journey now. We are encouraging everyone to take part, wherever they are in the world, in a way that works for them. Walk, jog or run. On your own, with colleagues or with your local hub.

To help people get started, we are also promoting the NHS Couch to 5K app, a simple and supportive plan that helps you ease into getting active at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Alongside this, CIOB members can connect through our virtual fitness club on Strava, giving you a way to stay motivated and feel part of a wider community, wherever you are.

And wherever you are based, you can get involved. If there is no Parkrun nearby, you can organise your own local event and still be part of the wider effort.

This is about more than a single day. It is about creating a shared moment across our community, with members, families and colleagues all stepping forward for the same cause.

If you can go a step further, we are also looking for sponsors to help grow the impact of the event and support CIOB Assist even more. Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing more details on how to take part, register your team and access resources to support your journey. For now, the message is simple. Lace up your trainers. Take that first step. And be part of something that supports our community when it matters most.
