MHCLG consultation on the National Planning Policy Framework: proposed reforms and other changes to the planning system
The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG) are seeking views on a revised National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and other changes to the planning system.
MHCLG are seeking views on a revised version of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).
Key revisions to the new NPPF could include the introduction of a default ‘yes’ in favour of building suitable homes around railway stations, supported by minimum housing density requirements. Similar support is proposed for building upwards in towns and cities, with development schemes that meet high design standards eligible for fast-tracking.
A draft NPPF has been published alongside this consultation and both documents should be read together.
CIOB will be responding on a number of areas in the consultation and we welcome input from members and wider industry ahead of the closing date on 10 March 2026. Should you have any views, please contact [email protected].
