Duan van der Merwe

Career Resume:

I started my career out of university as a concrete design engineer in the oil and gas industry in Qatar and eventually to specialised in planning and forensic delay analysis on major projects across Qatar, UAE and Saudi Arabia. During that time, I acquired my MCIOB designation and served on the Doha Hub Committee and chair of CIOB’s Novus for the MENA Region.

Now as a Director for Delta Consulting Group based out of Canada, I am working on various major projects in Canada and the United States and served as Chair of the Americas Regional Hub from 2023 - 2025.

Personal Statement:

I am a Trustee because of my deep passion for the built environment and my long-standing commitment to the CIOB. Since 2014, I have actively volunteered in various roles beginning as Novus Chair in the Middle East, serving on the Americas Regional Hub Committee, and later becoming Chair of the Americas Region Hub from 2023 to 2025.

As a trustee of the CIOB I will continue giving back by driving positive change at the highest level beyond my local region. I will contribute towards shaping Institute’s influence in driving positive change within the international built environment as a whole by transforming the construction industry towards being the diverse, inclusive and equitable industry of choice for modern professionals who champions sustainability and upholds the highest standards of quality and safety for the benefit of the greater public.
