Statement re. Sir David Amess MP

Last updated: 15th October 2021

The Conservative MP and campaigner Sir David Amess died earlier today.

Sir David chaired the Fire Safety and Rescue All Party Parliamentary Group which aimed to put the important issue of fire safety higher up on the political agenda, particularly in light of the tragic Grenfell fire.

He was a positive and thoughtful campaigner for the draft Building Safety Bill and the important steps it presents to fix the building safety regime as well as protecting leaseholders against historic defects.

Caroline Gumble, CEO of the CIOB, said: “CIOB has become aware of the sad and shocking news about the death of Sir David Amess. He understood and campaigned for many important issues to do with the built environment. His voice and support on these issues will be missed and our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.”
