Become a Chartered Member (MCIOB)
Chartered Membership of CIOB demonstrates your skills, expertise, and commitment to the highest professional standards.
As a Chartered member, you can add MCIOB after your name, meaning you'll be instantly recognised by clients and colleagues as a professional with the competence and knowledge to complete the job to the highest standard. Chartered membership is comparable to a bachelor’s degree and is internationally recognised.
Requirements
Becoming Chartered generally requires 3-5 years’ experience and a degree-level qualification. As there is no single career path into construction, we have created alternative pathways to recognise different combinations of educational achievement and industry experience.
You will need to complete an assessed report designed to evaluate candidates' knowledge, experience, and competence in the field of construction management.
Routes to Membership
There are several routes to becoming an MCIOB depending on your qualifications and experience — all leading to the same professional recognition. Depending on your current level of experience, you could be a member within as little as three months.
Professional Review
Most candidates must complete an assessment, known as a Professional Review (PR), as the final step to becoming a Chartered Member. The PR assesses a candidate’s knowledge, experience, and competence in construction management.
Benefits of Chartered Membership
You'll be able to call yourself either a Chartered Construction Manager or a Chartered Builder. By doing so, clients and colleagues will know your dedication to our industry and recognise your competence to meet the highest international standards.
