Summary
Climate change and ecological impact are some of the biggest challenges of our time. Please note: this event is for over 18’s only.
MidKent College is committed to being a mindful and considerate organisation that assesses and manages the impact of our work on the local and global environment.
Climate change and ecological impact are some of the biggest challenges of our time, and the UK Government's target to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 is ambitious. We're ambitious too. That's why we've put plans in place under our 'MidKent College ZERO' banner to make our campuses in Maidstone and Medway net-zero by 2030.
We recognise the significant role we play in shaping the values and behaviours of future generations. By demonstrating our own commitment to environmental sustainability, we believe we can instil a sense of responsibility and awareness among our students and staff to help create a culture of environmental awareness that extends beyond our campuses and into the broader community.
This CPD session will be delivered by Russel Burton, MD for HI Group who was the Project Director for The MKC Zero project, alongside Warda Ahmed; MKC Sustainability Officer and Richard Wilde; Course Analyst (Green Skills) at MKCTS.
A two course meal will be served prior to the presentations.
This learning activity can contribute to your annual CPD return and should be logged accordingly.

Our Speakers
Warda Ahmed
Sustainability OfficerMidKent College
I am the Sustainability Officer at MidKent College, where I lead the delivery of sustainability education and climate action across the institution. I work closely with staff and students across all curriculum areas, delivering workshops, training sessions and sustainability consultations that support the meaningful integration of sustainability and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into teaching, learning and college life.
With a background in Environmental Science (BSc) and Environmental Leadership and Management (MSc), my work focuses on helping learners understand how sustainability directly connects to their subjects, future careers and the wider green transition. I also support staff and departments to develop and deliver sustainability initiatives, ensuring transformative action is practical, relevant and accessible.
I also collaborate with external stakeholders including local councils and partners, contributing to wider sustainability initiatives and acting as a core stakeholder in local climate action planning. I believe true sustainability goes beyond environmental responsibility, encompassing social equity, economic resilience and long-term wellbeing for all
