Summary

Join CIOB in Melbourne to discuss if sustainability is genuinely everyone’s responsibility, why does it so often fall apart at delivery?

Please note: this event is for over 18’s only.

Sustainability is now a delivery problem, not a policy problem.

This event reframes sustainability as a delivery discipline rather than a strategic aspiration or reporting exercise. Across energy, buildings and the environment, sustainability commitments are frequently strongest at strategy stage and weakest at the point of delivery — where decisions on sequencing, procurement, constructability and risk transfer are made.

With Victoria targeting 95% renewable electricity by 2030 and significant decarbonisation required across the built environment, the discussion focuses on how sustainability outcomes are enabled or undermined by delivery models, governance structures and commercial incentives.

The intent is not to debate ambition, but to interrogate how sustainability survives the transition from policy to project, from design to construction, and from intention to measurable outcome.

This event is part of the CIOB President, Paul Gandy FCIOB and Chief Executive, Dr Victoria Hills, visit to Australia

Key discussion points:

  • Energy - Net Zero on Paper vs Net Zero on the Grid: Why Delivery Reality Is Now the Constraint
  • Buildings - Low-Carbon Design Is Not the Same as Low-Carbon Delivery
  • Environment - If Sustainability Is Everyone’s Responsibility, Why Is No One Accountable?
  • Digital Twin - Digital Twins That Actually Cut Carbon: From Visualisation to Delivery Control
