CIOB Mentoring Service

The CIOB Mentoring Service is a benefit included with membership, as well as a way for Chartered Members and Fellows to support those in the CIOB community looking to become Chartered.

What is the CIOB Mentoring Service?

The CIOB Mentoring Service is free for members on a suitable pathway.

Using an online mentoring platform, the service connects Chartered Members and Fellows who have volunteered to be mentors with members looking for support in becoming Chartered Members, Fellows or Chartered Environmentalists. This structured approach aims to encourage professionalism within the industry through CIOB members’ expertise.

The Mentoring Service currently offers the four mentoring programmes described below. Although we do not offer mentoring for career advice/progression, you can attend our events to meet other members and have informal career discussions. You can also connect with members via the CIOB Connect mobile app.

Self Development Mentoring Programme

Chartered Members and Fellows (including those retired) can sign up as mentors for this programme. Mentees must be on our Self-Development pathway, which is for graduates not yet eligible for the Professional Review.

A mentor will have a virtual session with their mentee to discuss the support needed and agree the frequency of sessions and duration of mentoring. During the sessions, the mentor will explain the Professional Review process and core competencies needed to become a Chartered Member. They will share and discuss their experience in the relevant competencies, set action-orientated outcomes and provide feedback. The Mentee is encouraged to also make use of the Tomorrow’s Leaders Steppingstones to support them becoming a Chartered Member.
