Summary

The Act introduces a new regime for the assessment and management of building safety risks in multi-occupied buildings in Wales.

The Building Safety (Wales) Act 2026 is a significant step towards improving safety in multi-occupied residential buildings in Wales. The Act introduces a new building safety regime, creating clear lines of accountability and imposing statutory duties on relevant "duty-holders" in respect of the relevant parts of a multi-occupied residential building. It aims to enhance safety by giving those responsible for buildings clear and robust duties to assess and manage risk. The Act is part of a wider program of reforms aimed at improving safety in multi-occupied residential buildings, which includes the establishment of a robust and coherent regulatory system.

In this webinar, Sarah Cullen, Head of Building Safety Reform in Welsh Government, will provide an overview of the new regime and its timeline for implementation.
