Summary
Site tour of the Oxford Rail Station Project. Hosted by Kier and in partnership with Constructing Excellence.CIOB, CE and Kier
In 2022, Kier was appointed by Network Rail to deliver the main works package at Oxford railway station as part of the Oxford Corridor Phase 2 Project, now known as Oxfordshire Connect, to significantly improve both facilities and capacity.
The rail infrastructure in the Oxford Station area is close to full capacity and currently wouldn’t support the start of East West Rail services. Through Oxfordshire Connect, the station is being expanded and the wider area upgraded, bringing a range of benefits to passengers and residents alike.
The busy station is not only a key interchange serving the historic city and wider county, but also a vital part of the country’s freight network.
This project will:
- provide 50% increasein Through-platform capacity for additional services
- improve active travel links with4-metre widecycle/footways to be introduced
- significantly improve the capacity, accessibility, and safety of the station for millions of passengers every year
Come and see first-hand the continuing work Kier are completing at this station.

Directions if coming from train station…
Come out of station, turn right along front, pass bike parking on left and go over footbridge. After footbridge turn right to go through Becket Street car park. Follow safety hoarding on left and then walk across car park towards entrance/exit, coming onto Becket Street by church. Go right along road towards Student Castle building and at end you will see our compound on left.
Directions if driving…
We suggest parking in Oxpens council car park (OX1 1RQ), which is next to ice rink, just past Westgate shopping centre. Our site is then 5 minute walk around the corner. Turn left out of car park entrance/exit, walk along pavement past Formula One autocentres on left until you get to mini roundabout near MoD building. Go left at mini roundabout past Royal Mail depot and we’re next door.
