Summary

CIOB North East Tomorrow's Leaders, in collaboration with Northumbria University, presents a series of site visits

Please note: this event is for over 18’s only.

Come along and join the CIOB North East, in partnership with the School of Architecture and the Built Environment, Northumbria University, for the ‘Constructing the North East’ monthly programme of site visits.

Join us for an exclusive CIOB site visit to the Sir Bobby Robson Institute at Freeman Hospital, one of the North East's most significant healthcare construction projects.

Delivered by Robertson Construction North East, the £30 million development will create a world-leading cancer treatment and research facility, bringing together specialist cancer and blood disorder research teams in a state-of-the-art environment designed to advance clinical trials and improve patient outcomes across the region.

During this visit, attendees will gain a unique insight into the planning, design and construction of this landmark healthcare project. The Robertson team will provide an overview of the scheme, discuss the challenges of delivering a live hospital development, and showcase the innovative approaches being used throughout construction.

The visit will include:

  • Project overview and introduction to the Sir Bobby Robson Institute
  • Insight into healthcare construction and specialist project delivery
  • Discussion on sustainability, innovation and stakeholder engagement
  • Guided tour of the construction site (subject to site conditions)
  • Q&A with the project team

The three-storey facility has been designed to significantly expand cancer research capacity across the North East and beyond, supporting a substantial increase in clinical trial activity and helping to drive future advances in cancer treatment.

Important Information

  • Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • All attendees accessing the construction site must wear steel toe-capped safety boots.
  • Additional PPE will be provided where required.
  • Please ensure you arrive promptly for the site safety briefing. Late arrivals may not be permitted on site.

This event offers a fantastic opportunity for construction professionals, students and those with an interest in healthcare infrastructure to see first-hand how a major facility is being delivered to support future cancer research and treatment.

This learning activity can contribute to your annual CPD return and should be logged accordingly.
