Addressing cultural diversity in the workplace can greatly impact on occupational safety and health, finds a new report from the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA).

The report blends cross-cultural theory with leadership techniques and applies them to the workplace, to offer practical recommendations for improving safety and health outcomes in culturally diverse environments.

The European Commission has launched a public consultation to gather insights and contributions from the public further to results of the evaluation of the European Strategy on Safety and Health at Work 2007-2012.  This should help identify current and future challenges in the occupational safety and health area, and identify solutions to address these challenges.

Pembroke Centre Digs Deep

The visitors received a very warm welcome and were treated to a comlimentary buffet while chatting to GD Harries techincal staff about their expertise.   The visit was topped off by a tour around their deopt and quarry.

The event, held at the Senate House, University of London, offers BIFM members and non-members the opportunity to hear personal FM career journeys into FM from different sectors.

Facilities managers and their organisations will have to deal with the possibility of power shortages, both spontaneous and government enforced, by the year 2016, according to the chief executive of BSRIA.

"Its an issue that is really exercising BSRIA", the chief executive said.

"Facilities managers and FM suppliers should be thinking now about how they are going to manage this risk."

Facilities management partners of commercial air conditioning users (offices and warehouses to shopping centres and airports) need to be aware of the perfect storm brewing in the industry, according to a specialist hire company.

The company is warning that significant underinvestment in maintenance over recent years, combined with introduction of a new British Standard and the looming R22 deadline, mean the sector could experience a capacity crunch over the next eighteen months, and few businesses will have contingency plans in place.
