Chartered Fellowship represents the highest level of membership within the organisation

Chartered Fellowship with CIOB is awarded to those with extensive experience, demonstrated leadership, and significant contributions to the industry. It connects individuals to a global network of elite professionals and upholds high ethical and professional standards, enhancing their influence and credibility.

Requirements

Leadership experience

  • At least 5 years leading people and organisations.

Industry contribution

  • Active contribution beyond your day job. This could include charities (e.g. Construction Youth Trust), professional bodies, or work with schools, universities, communities, or government.

Qualification (if not Chartered)

  • A Level 6 qualification (e.g. UK bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Can be academic, vocational, or professional — not limited to construction.

Alternative recognition

  • Relevant memberships (e.g. RICS, ICE, CIM, APM) may also be accepted.

You will be required to produce a 3,000-word reflective account of an initiative you have led, demonstrating your competence in leading people and organisations within the sector.

Depending on your previous experience, you could be a Fellow within six months.

Application Process

Academic pathway

Academics with more than five years of experience teaching or leading construction research, who are also a key strategy contributor in their organisation, could be eligible for Chartered Fellowship. Academics are also eligible for a 50% discount.
