On 20 May 2026, the UK Government’s Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) published a call for evidence to inform future policy on those working in the building professions, trades and occupations.

This work continues from the Single Construction Regulator Prospectus which was published in December 2025 and established the need for a formal consultation on the future strategy for regulating construction professions.

It is part of a package of significant reforms for the UK construction industry following the Grenfell Tower Inquiry which made 58 recommendations to set out a long-term vision for rebuilding people’s trust in the building and fire safety systems and delivering better outcomes for residents across the country.

The formal call for evidence closes on 12 August 2026.

CIOB, in its remit as a professional body will be responding to the call for evidence. We will shortly be hosting a number of sessions to discuss the Government's intentions and help us formulate a response to this call for evidence.

If you would like to provide evidence, or join one of these sessions, please contact David Barnes on [email protected].

The full call for evidence can be viewed below.
