World Suicide Prevention Day - 10 September

Last updated: 6th September 2022

According to the World Health Organisation an estimated 703,000 people a year take their life. For every person who completes suicide, another 20 will attempt it. Millions of people suffer intense grief or are otherwise profoundly impacted by suicidal behaviours.

Every year on 10 September, organisations around the world get together to raise awareness about suicide prevention. It's an opportunity to encourage and empower people to take action to help prevent suicide around the world.

We can all play a role in supporting those experiencing a suicidal crisis or those bereaved by suicide whether as a member of society, as a child, as a parent, as a friend, as a colleague or as a person with lived experience. We can all encourage understanding about the issue, reach out to people who are struggling, and share our experiences.

With mental health issues such as stress, depression and anxiety being the biggest cause of work related ill health in the construction industry, we wanted to remind you that as a CIOB member you are not alone.

CIOB Assist is here for much more than just financial support during difficult times. We can also help you, and your family to quickly access free mental health and wellbeing support through Anxiety UK.

To find out ways you can access this service go to the CIOB Assist website or email [email protected].
