The CIOB Principal Contractor Competency Certification Scheme (PCCCS) provides a route to proving your competency as a Principal Contractor, as required by the Building Safety Regulator (BSR).

Overview

The Building Safety Regulator (BSR) has introduced new safety-critical roles: Principal Designer and Principal Contractor, both responsible for building safety.

  • Principal Contractor Responsibilities:
They oversee building safety during construction. If the Principal Contractor is an organisation, they must appoint an individual to manage these responsibilities.
  • CIOB’s PCCCS Qualification:
Designed for individuals in the Principal Contractor role under the Building Safety Act 2022, this certification ensures they meet competence standards. Applicants must be members of CIOB or another recognised professional body.
  • Required Competencies for Duty Holders:
Principal Contractors must demonstrate expertise in:
    • Reviewing design and construction processes.
    • Addressing poor practices and ensuring work quality.
    • Identifying major hazards and reducing safety risks during building use.
