The construction industry has always contributed to social mobility by providing a clear route from manual jobs into trades and management. However, the industry is not immune to the threat of skills shortages and an ageing population. Recruiting and developing talent from a wide range of backgrounds is crucial to bring new ideas to the industry, boost productivity and construct an environment for all society.

The Diversity Special Interest Group (SIG) aims to engage with employers and industry bodies to identify and address the barriers to recruiting a diverse workforce. It aims to help the industry appeal to a broader population as a career of choice. Expert members meet quarterly to share ideas; provide expert input into the CIOB’s policy and external engagement work; review and guide content for the CIOB’s educational activity.

Current Activity:

This group is actively recruiting members. The first meeting of the SIG will be mid-January 2018 (date to be confirmed). This meeting will discuss and confirm the Terms of Reference for the SIG and establish the initial schemes of work and research.
