This event will explore the student-to-professional journey within the Built Environment, focusing particularly on how students and graduates transition into professional practice and progress toward chartership with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
You can expect to meet the senior leadership team from the CIOB, including our CEO, Dr Victoria Hills. The President, Paul Gandy, FCIOB, and Senior Vice President - Saul Humphries, FCIOB CEnv.
The sessions will bring together students, educators, industry representatives, and professional body leaders to examine both the opportunities and barriers that exist in the pathway from education to professional recognition.
Overall, the event aims to strengthen collaboration between education and industry, identify real challenges faced by students and graduates, and inform future initiatives that support the next generation of construction professionals.

Paul Gandy FCIOB
CIOB President 2025/26CIOB President 2025/26
Paul currently serves as President of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) for the 2025–2026 term. He is also Board Advisor to Tilbury Douglas Construction and Acumine and a Director of P Gandy Built Environment Advisory Limited.
Paul became a Chartered Member of the CIOB in 1987 and was awarded Fellowship status in 1999. In 2013, he was elected as a Trustee and served on the CIOB Board of Trustees until 2016.
His career in construction began in 1979 as a trainee engineer with the Trafalgar House Group, where he progressed through various leadership roles until 2000. Since then, Paul has held senior executive positions across several major construction organisations. Most notably, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Tilbury Douglas from 2019 to late 2024, where he led a successful transformation of the business.
Paul’s professional experience spans a wide range of sectors and international markets. He has lived and worked in Portugal and overseen operations in China, including a construction materials sourcing business. In addition to his work with main contractors, Paul has held leadership roles within the MEP supply chain, further broadening his industry expertise.
A passionate advocate for the construction industry, Paul believes in its potential as a fulfilling career path. He is committed to promoting a healthy, skilled, and resilient construction sector—one capable of delivering the environmental, social, and infrastructure improvements essential to our future.
