Summary
CIOB North East Tomorrow's Leaders, in collaboration with Northumbria University, presents a series of site visitsConstructing the North East
Join CIOB North East Tomorrow's Leaders in collaboration with Northumbria University for a site visit to Bowmer & Kirkland's Regent Farm First School.
Regent Farm School is a new two storey first school delivered on behalf of the Department for Education. The Regent Farm First school was previously selected as part of the School Replacement programme to be replaced due to the buildings age and ever-increasing maintenance costs.
The build comprises of a new two storey teaching block that includes for a main hall for dining with an adjacent kitchen. The building caters for pupils in Nursery as well as Key stage 1 and Key stage 2, with dedicated classroom spaces, staff spaces and two additional halls funded by Newcastle City Council. The build also includes for a new landscape design linking the internal teaching curriculum with the external spaces.
The construction consists of a concrete raft slab with the internal and external walls constructed from SIPS panels (Structurally insulated Panel System). The walls are constructed in a factory offsite and arrive on site with the external façade already installed, the façade material being brick slip and fibre cement cladding. The floors are constructed from hollow core precast concrete planks which are supported by the SIPs panels and a pre-constructed modular timber cassette roof. The windows are also installed within the external wall panels off site and come with pre-installed louvres where required for the ventilation design. This extensive use of MMC allows B&K to delivery primary schools in around 12 months providing minimal disruption both to the school and the surrounding area.
FULL PPE MUST BE WORN - Hi-viz jacket, hard hat (preferably with chin strap), safety boots, gloves and glasses. Site can provide some, so please let me know if you require anything.
This learning activity can contribute to your annual CPD return and should be logged accordingly.
