Suitability

The Chartered Membership Programme (CMP) is suitable for Construction professionals who can work towards becoming a full Chartered Member (MCIOB) through a structured study programme designed to help experienced construction professionals demonstrate their competence. The programme combines elements of study to help candidates develop a strong understanding of the principles of construction management. This course is specifically for progression to MCIOB upon successfully completing the Professional Review. Candidates must have at least one of the following to start the course:

  • Five years’ experience in a construction management role
  • Completion of a Level 4 Site Management qualification
  • Technical qualifications such as HNC or HND.

Your Pathway

We recommend that candidates studying the CMP join the CIOB on the Experienced pathway.

Assessment

Assessment is made via an Open Book Exam which is carried out at the end of the programme. You will be provided with a construction project scenario and will answer four questions relating to the studied modules. You will be given 10 days to submit your answer to the questions through the virtual learning environment, Moodle. This allows you to use the resources of your choice to complete your exam.

The Professional Review

Once you have successfully completed your CMP, you can join the CIOB as an Applicant and proceed to submit your Professional Review. Your CMP provider will also give advice and support on the completion of your Professional Review application. This is an assessment of your occupational and management competence and the final stage of gaining your Chartered Membership.
